Course Outline:
The Certificate in First Steps to Business (FSB) is a Level 2 NZQA approved Introductory level qualification. The aim of this course is to build practical business and mathematics skills to assist in preparation for starting your own business or gaining and improving employment opportunities.

Module 1 - Taking the first steps |
This modules focus gives you a basic introduction to the business world.You will learn techniques and tools to analyse personal motivators, skills, strengths, qualities and characteristics, time management strategies and a range of literacy tools. |

Module 2 - The planning toolkit |
This modules focus is based on understanding business planning, why you need a business plan, identifying business opportunities, goal setting, business and environmental analysis using the SWOT and STEPP analysis. |

Module 3 - Crunching the numbers |
This modules focus is based on basic financial skills, budgeting, tax, averages, rounding and other business calculations. You will learn to prepare a basic personal and business cash flow budget. |

Module 4 - Marketing matters |
This modules focus is based on marketing. What skills are needed, why you need to know, the benefits, advertising, setting pricing and how to market effectively. |

You must be at least 16 years of age, and not attending high school |

When does the course start and where is it held? |
This is a 24 week part time night course held from 6pm - 9pm Monday and Tuesday nights in Te Puke and Thursday nights in Whakatane. No classes will be held on public holidays. |
